The Fushiki Hikiyama Festival is the springtime festival in honor of the deity of Fushiki Shrine, more commonly known as the “Fighting Floats Festival.” Six floats are adorned with beautifully delicate flowers in a procession across town during the daytime proceedings of the festival.
With the coming of nightfall, the flowers are then replaced with large paper lanterns in preparation for the evening festivities. This is when the excitement of the festival truly reaches its climax. These gigantic floats are crashed together at full speed, accompanied to the fast-paced beats of the Japanese taiko drum. Lanterns swing vigorously from side-to-side as two of the floats are violently crashed together, gathering excited cheers and applause from spectators. The Fushiki Hikiyama Festival is a festival of deep significance which is bursting with the colorful spirit and bravery of the port-town of Fushiki.
